About

Hello, I’m Francis Twomey, the founder of Canterbury Woods Creations.

For 12 years, I had a successful career in technology, solving complex problems. But over time, I found myself searching for something more tangible, something I could build with my own hands.

In 2018, my wife, our two dogs, and I made the move to upstate New York from South Jersey. I made her a promise: if I could get an awesome table saw, I would build every piece of furniture for our new home. That first oak bed wasn’t just a project; it was the start of a new passion and calling.

Today, I bring the precision from my tech background to the soul and artistry of woodworking.

I don’t run a factory; I build partnerships. I specialize in custom commissions for people who have a unique vision—a specific dimension, a challenging space, or a unique idea they simply can’t find in a store. My background isn’t just in wood; it’s in listening. The most important part of my process is understanding your story and your needs, so we can build your “forever piece” together.

My philosophy is to let the wood speak for itself. I work primarily with domestic hardwoods, and my approach is like surfing: you don’t fight the wave, you flow with it. We’ll let the grain, color, and character of the wood guide the final design.

This isn’t about quantity; it’s about connection. I build furniture designed to be used, loved, and to witness your family’s story. My guarantee isn’t just in the wood or the joinery—it’s in the process. You will love the final piece because you’ll know it’s the only one like it, and you’ll love the journey we took to create it together.
